Love the look of a beautiful 18th century French silk pillow against the rough, hand loomed linen seat of my humble little chair. A French chanvre/linen with thistle woven in on the seat…my very first purchase from Wendy Lewis of The Textile Trunk. 18th century dresses were routinely lined with hand loomed linen…wonderful mix of textures…the high and low.
The whole concept of carefully and ritually saved important fabrics…this was at one point handed from an 18th century home to a church to make vestments…and the lessons of color, texture and pattern mixing are what draw me to antique textiles.

All fabulous museums with great virtual collections.
This is just gorgeous! Thankyou!
You are very welcome..thank you!
Really lovely…humble can be ever so wonderful!
Trish, this is opulent, so splendid, and with such history. As an art history ladybug I am always interested in things like this. You, my lady, are a true original, one who values all these lovely things from times past and treasures all of them.
That is beautifully stated. Lovely images.
Hi Trish, I am an antique textile (and new) addict (but in the best way). The touch, soul and creativity involved in the ancient art of textiles makes my heart happy.
Super post.

Trisha,
So beautiful and I love how a smallish piece of fabric can be made to appear as though that is what it was meant to be used for. I love the chair too!
Karen
I simply adore the chair and pillow-lovely
Gorgeous pillow! There is so much going on in that fabric with pattern, colour and weave. Those 18th century silk weavers really knew what they were doing. So beautiful.
Gorgeous, Trish, both the pillow and the chair! I love looking at beautiful textiles!

Trish, like so many, I love these lush, beautiful fabrics. Unfortunately, so does Sweetie the Cat. Why do felines always gravitate to the best? I treasure your photographs which is usually the closest I get to antique fabrics these days!

As always whenever you do a post I am swooning! Vanna
