Happy New Year my friends! Most of my little finds tend to have a story behind them. Here…an 18th century French Marquis scrawls his obligations from a losing hand on some playing cards. If the saying “lucky at cards, unlucky in love” is true, let’s hope he was well compensated for his losing hand!
I happily dropped all my cards…the sewing and dyeing and primping projects… as soon as the first kid rolled his way home for Christmas vacation. His sister is back at work, and he’s on his way back to school, so it’s time for me to officially greet the New Year!
Best wishes for luck in everyone’s New Year…but mostly, lots of love!
Happy 2013!
Happy new year! Love those playing cards, what an amazing treasure.
After seeing the cards, I sure do miss the art of beautiful handwriting! Happy New Year!
Une tres heureuse et BONNE ANNEE, dear Trish!
Beautiful cards!!! And the history….oh my!
We have the same expression in German:
“Glück im Spiel – Pech in der Liebe” 🙂
Wish you all good luck for all of your projects during this year, keep a few Aces up your sleeve and use the Joker when ever in need!
Tres amicalement,

Those are beautiful. Where do you find something like that?
Hi Jacquelyn. Etsy and Ebay are great sources for antique French letters, bills, labels, etc. I stumbled over these when hunting for 18th c French script a few months ago. Good luck!
Thank you! I have searched ebay in the past for antique oracle cards but never considered etsy. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Trish! You always find the most interesting things and I can’t wait to see more of your treasures!
