Yes…I’m still up to my elbows in gray dye…but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a few golden highlights. My sister and I did a little shopping last week in one of my favorite small towns on Northern California…quintessential old Americana…a great mix of garden nurseries, quirky thrift stores, and several wonderful antique stores. Chelsea Antiques is on one side of the main boulevard…and Sienna, where I took all these photos, on the other.
The top frame is 18th century German…terrifically expensive….so if you find something like this at the local thrift..I’d grab it…
Really..the shades are what does it for me!
Sienna Antiques in Petaluma here
If you click the link above you’ll get store info and a street view…in case my farther flung readers want to get a snapshot of a great little American town!
Thanks for the photos from Sienna Antiques. Last time I was in Petaluma I was little girl visiting relatives. I don’t remember it as a pretty place (1950’s). Oh my, I think I need to re-visit it now when I’m in that area. If most of the street is also worth seeing I’ll plan for more time, maybe with a lunch stop.
Hi Terry. Lots to visit! Sienna has been under new ownership for several years, and Chelsea is always great. Many great shops within walking distance. And Della Fattoria nearby is a great place for lunch!
They have some amazing pieces, I love the very large gilt frame, looks like it might have held a mirror, behind the crytal table lamp. One of these days I will have to make a trip out your way.
OOPS! P.S. I forgot to ask about your new rose garden. I’m sure it’s beautiful. Hope you’ll have time to post some photos in the Spring. I’d love to know which roses you chose this time.
Merry Christmas.
I love the frames. The center map is also top notch. I am so glad that gold and brass are coming back to the forefront. Mary
Trish,
I must head up north and shop in your neck of the woods. Each visit Mr. B. is along and not terribly interested in shopping the antique and thrift stores. It sounds like a “girls road trip”! 🙂
Karen
Excellent images! I’m sure that you had a pretty good time there together with your sister!
Would love to shop and “sniff” around with you 🙂 maybe one day…..
Tried to see the shop, checking out especially this German frame, clicked on the link but did not worked…Oh my…
Will try another way!
XOX, karin
The view is just from the street, Karin…shows all the Victorian architecture that makes the town picturesque!
Hurray – worked out how to leave comments again to your posts!xxxk
trying again, sorry for muddling up……k
Hello,
Many people who like faded colors antiques furnishings don’t know that gilded faded items existed. That’s my work for 13 years. As my customers ask me to create exactly The same ” real patina ” on a 18h century furniture who had a foot broken or anything else, sculpted recently. Some of them ask me to work on their frames or mirrors because goldleaf is too much lighting. My work is to give faded aspect to goldleaf to be less ” bling bling ” and give them soul and emotion.
Many people try to make patina on furnitures but they Forget that it is a job. If you have a broken arm, you don’t go to your bakery, haven’t you?
I learned in a famous art school in Firenze during 4 years, and you are considered as an expert after 5 years of experiences. You can imagine my
Face when I see all this awfull aged finish !!!
