This velvet was once apple green…Just have to say…sewing is not my forte…still in process on this little Louis XVI foot stool using Wendy Lewis’s thistle linen!
Close up of Piranesi etching…every nuance of gray…
That Fornasetti gaze…from the storage loft. Hoping to add a library ladder to the left. Built in storage to use the space made by jog in wall and space between wall studs.
When my crew couldn’t show up on the prescribed day, I actually took a hammer to the ceiling myself. Couldn’t wait to echo the exterior roofline, and add some space to a small room.
After my daughter moved into San Francisco this Summer, we raised her ceiling and added new windows. The formally saffron yellow walls are now coated with a lovely shade of primer white. Temporary…but lovely! Since her room is only 10 X 12, we raised her ceiling to the roofline, extending it over the adjoining hallway to create loft storage. Even the primer white grays out in the shadows! The bedding makes the statement all on it’s own right now.
Sources: Bella Notte Charcoal velvet sham, Whisper Linen ruffled edge drapes, re-dyed velvet drapes Garnet Hill Signature Sateen sheets in Silver. Matteo Tat euro sham in coal. West Elm striped duvet. I dyed some apple green velvet drapes from Bella Notte that “mouse’s back” gray. Will do another post soon about that to give you a few pointers in case you want to try your hand!
Also…FYI, Janet Wiebe Antiques having a 40% off warehouse sale of French antiques in Houston this Wednesday Dec 5 and Thursday Dec 6 from 10-5. You might want to check out her website here.
Gorgeous!!
I’m heading to France for xmas & January for the first time in 17 days (who’s counting:) and I think I will be awestruck by all of it’s beauty even in winter:)
Merci:)
Glad to see you’re blogging again. The house looks amazing as usual! Going to Paris in March–trying to make time to visit that oh so cute chateau we love. Hubby wants to see what all the fuss is about.
Hi Trish. I love these photos, especially the Piranesi. I usually have a couple in inventory. The detail and the shading have never been equaled. Maybe I should think about taking mine home?? So glad that you are back. xoxo

Love , love Bela Notte…they have fabulous things…washable as well is a bonus.
Just started following your blog (where have I been) and loving it. Also pretty sure your are the same person that has that wonderful store in Napa?? Love the zinc sconce and wondering if that is something you sell?
Jackie
Hi Jackie. Thank you, but, no, I don’t have a store. The zinc sconce was originally green/gilded…bought about a decade ago. Once you get the shapes of things you love, it’s nice to be able to move the color along with paint or dye!
I would love to hear about how you dyed the velvet and what brand of dye you used. When I work with hats, I find that the porocion dyes from Dharma Trading Co. are nice. One of my english milliner friends (Bridget Bailey) also uses procion dyes. You did a great job here!

The Little Red Diary
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Thank you!
Loved that you had, just had to, take the hammer in your own hands! I’ve always been a feminist, but nothing says girl power like doing your own demo…or building your own garden! You go, girl!
Love the new lines of the roof and the shadow play in the room.
