As a bookend to my antique floral textile obsession…here are some early old roses. Amazing how they dress up the simple painter’s canvas thrown over the kitchen table. The earliest of my Bourbon roses: Madame Issac Perrier, Madame Ernest Calvat, Souvener de Malmaison, Deuil de Dr. Reynaud …and a glimpse at an early peony.

Just gorgeous! You have a real talent for growing flowers.
so divine + the smell is Heavenly. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
Totally beautiful photos, the smell of these old roses is so wonderful. Also another great favourite is a poppy called Pattys Plum, do you know it.
Just googled it, Sallie. Gorgeous! Will see if I can get it! Love the raspberry toned poppies!
Trish,
Which is which. I would love to get that dark pink rose you always show images of, but was uncertain when I went online which one it was. I also love the Romantica roses since the are the closest I’ll ever get to a peony-looking flower.

Hi Karen…if you hover over each picture you should be able to see some of the names. Though I didn’t mention the white one (Somreuil…a tea rose). Icy pink, almost white is Souvenir de Malmaison, Mid pink is Madame Ernest Calvat, Most intense magenta (second photo) is Deuil de Dr. Reynaud. Other magenta is Madame Issac Perierre.
Thanks, Trish. I should have tried that…computers, they are so darn clever! Have a good weekend and thank you for always inspiring me in the garden.

Hi Trish, at last! Gorgeous, gorgeous! I’m am still waiting for Souvenir to arrive…and the rest…spent all day Saturday preparing the bed for them….here everything is so traumatized by the crazy weather….so many of the hydrangea buds are lost due to frost damage with the cooler nights…..loved this glimpse of your paradise!! If you look on the Crocus website which is Uk based they sell some of the most amazing poppies but I am sure you can get these easily in the USA.
I smell them all the way to Kansas! Glorious!
Which reminds me…my Kansas peonies look about ready to open! Weeks behind yours!

soo lucky to have such gorgeous flowers!!! how is the lavender?
Soon Joni…all just starting to bud along old garden pathway and on new hillside!
The world seems right again now that the roses are blooming! I had an early burst of blooms and now waiting for the next burst. The lavender is strong although I don’t have nearly as much as you. Your roses are gorgeous and you are so right, they make even a painters drop cloth look elegant.
