What is it about bed linens these days? Love the textures and colors of natural linens,
soft cottons, scrumptious washable velvets…the boutique dyed range of colors…
and of course…always the ruffles! Bella Notte Linens above, with my treasured
antique French linen from antique dealer and blogger Karin of La Pouyette.
Bella Notte is a small local company up here in Northern California
started by designer Kathleen McCoy. Their Spring Outlet sale is this weekend
Details and coupon here
I probably have enough…but it never hurts to look…
Or does it?
Los Angeles based Matteo Linens…above is their Wallpaper quilt line…
Like Bella Notte….they cut and sew first before dyeing bedding in
small batches. My buddies Pam of Red Ticking in Seattle here,
and Heather of Trove in Laguna Beach here both carry the line.
Complete list of stores here. If you have a chance to visit
a store that carries their line you’d fall in love
with the colors and feel of the fabric…
Wonderful neutrals…
gorgeous deeper grays and taupes…
Here’s their Americana quilt…
Love how they mix in ticking with the lace edged linen.
Matteo’s has a month long promotion…
Online only April sale ending….soon!

Here’s a piece of antique French linen I just dyed a charcoal gray…
While I was initially disappointed in this piece…heavily patched,
it’s imperfections freed me up to throw it into the dye bath. It has the
characteristic feel of heavy linen that I prefer over metis (a linen cotton mix).
It’s a personal thing…it’s best if you get a chance to feel for yourself…
I was lucky to be able to find these linen sheets at the flea market…
From Karen Silen of La Maison Violette
At booth D-15 at the Alameda “Antiques by the Bay” Flea Market here
These I lined with Bella Notte Whisper Linen curtains
in a post about my bedroom…here
One of my most trusted sources for antique French linen is, of course,
Wendy Lewis, her candy store of hundreds of antique quilts, pelmets, toile,
eiderdown, ticking, vintage metis, and antique French bed linens, gowns
and yardage listed on Ebay under Antique Vintage European Textiles …
Her antique and vintage sheets here, earlier post on Wendy here.
Wendy features quite a few dyed linens now…if you want to leave
it to a professional!
More luxurious linen with subtle shading and infinite custom details…
The lovely Italian Arte Pura bed and table linens…beautiful website here
Available exclusively through Maryanne Flaherty at Beadboard UpCountry
in Brenham, Texas. Her great posts about the line are here and here

Enough for now…and back to work….
Finally…a little competition for the poppies…
Iris Pallida “aurea variegata”…
The linens are exquisite and the variegation of the Iris Pallida foliage is stunning! Love the pink and purple tones together as well. Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE them especially with the embroidery fay xx
LOVE these linen! Funny, but the grey you just dyed is one of my favorites, maybe because it’s a cross over between old and new …?
I love silver linings! The dark gray is very new and now…tempted to go even darker!
Bellissima questa biancheria, la mia passione!!!!
Gorgeous posting Trish! We are busily getting ready for remnants of the past in Nipomo. Will we see you there.
Hugs,
The Boys
Not Nipomo…but Alameda! You must be exhausted!
Hi Trish: An inspiring and beautiful post! And thank you for the shout out; I will be bringing lots of lovely antique French linens (dyed and au natural) to Alameda (booth D-15) this Sunday! I hope to see you there!
Thank you Karen! Will definitely swing by!
I love your dyed gray sheet it came out really well. I bought a stash from Karin too and love my new/old sheets and tickings. Your garden is really amazing and the flowers are so beautiful it has really come to life!
I’m so excited to see a source in your post near me…Laguna Beach is just a few miles from my house. Loved this post.
Also, I ordered, received and planted some of the beautiful poppies you showed us. Thanks for that.
Karen
Hi Karen. That’s great. Keep the seed heads, hang them upside down ’till they dry. You can shake them about next fall. You’ll have YEARS of poppies out of those that you bought.
Hi Trish,
I was planning to go to Nipoma until I saw your post on the Bella Notte sale!
Please be honest… is it a worthwhile sale?
Are there amazing deals or just a bit off.
I really must know because I might cancel Nipoma to go to this sale!
I trust you 🙂
Thanks a million!!
Terri
Hi Terri. Bella Notte is there every Friday and Saturday from 10-2pm. Duvets that run @ $600 are marked down to $160 or so, pillow shams @ $25-35. Defects are usually very small. This sale is one of two per year. There is an extra 20% off, and a $10 coupon. Apparel pieces (robes, pajamas, etc) are $10. So, yes, its always nice to get a little more off on already heavily reduced merchandise. But Nipoma…I’d be very torn! I would probably stick with my plans, and do Bella Notte another weekend. They ARE open ’till 5 for this sale…maybe you could squeeze in a little trip to Marin on your way back to the East Bay??!!!
I’m swooning…all those luscious linens and those new dyed colors…
…gorgeous post! 🙂
Love it ! Love it!
Fell in luv with these linens when at ABC Carpet in NYC….my first peek!
Love them…
Just gorgeous!

A big Merci to you, Trish!!!!!! I canot tell you how surprised I was when I saw this post.! The Arte Pura has been so well received we are shipping to as far as Calgary,Canada…… This was awesome of you to include us and this incredible line…..The bedding, tabletop, bath, and we didn’t know, but the pajamas have been very popular ( no one is wearing to bed) considering the designer has been in Italian pret a porter for 20 years! So now the dressmaker details are making their way into the bedding line! Again, thank you for including us, Arte Pura is still somewhat of a Secret but people are finding out………xxxoooMaryanne
Trove is one of my favorite shops–I think that I stop in and check out the linens. Thanks for this super informative post.
I wish I could visit Trove to discover all their wonderful items!
Have a wonderful weekend Trish!

Love the post on Linens. You have such great taste Trish! Happy Weekend!
Beautiful post! And these linens are to ‘die for’! Would love to have some from Bella Notte – but, just a bit too far away from my place!
Thank you so much Trish for mention me, I’m more than happy that you love the GB!
Best wishes for a lovely weekend and – Happy hunting!

What a truely inspiring post – I have some beautiful old french embroidered calico bed sheets which I now feel inspired to dye (wish me luck)!! I also feel a bit of online shopping is in order (I hope they ship to Australia). Thank you again for the inspiration.

I just got back from Nipoma. I told the boys at Atelier de Campagne that you sent me to them. They certainly adore you.
This post is absolutely beautiful. I will have to make my way up to Marin for their next linen sale. Beautiful.
Hi Trish,
Lovely linens…leaving my first comment via new iPad…your blog looks completely amazing on the new iPad…it is also delivered in a couple of very interesting formats. Miss you
Sometimes I forget how wonderful your blog is! You are singing my song with all of the hemp sheets! Great sources!
Hi Trish,
I’ve been meaning to come back over here and Thank you profusely for posting about the amazing Bella Notte sale.
Even though I was a “newbie” at the sale, I made out like a bandit 🙂
My husband and I are so enjoying our comfy new bed and I definitely made the right decision to stay home and go to Bella Notte instead of Nipomo. I can’t thank you enough for generously sharing your fabulous sources.
And of course I can’t wait for the next sale as I’m hooked.
Take care,
Terri
Your bed looks beautiful. And (drum roll) they’re open every Friday/Sat 10-2 when they’re NOT having a sale!
Hi Trish: I met Wendy Lewis last year at Brimfield and saw ALL her magnificent linens. What a collection…and what a nice person! So…sorry I don’t live near Brimfield any more and won’t be going again.
Linen, or any kind of fabric, is such a joy!
What a magnifient blog I will be emcouraging my readers to sign up to you beautiful work. Congratulations it is truly a pleasure to read. I hope one day my blog can be as beautiful as yours.
Jo
