Yes…the route from Creekside Park to the top of Mt. Baldy! My usual route up Baldy is blocked (grrr) till November. I usually do other trails on the Ross side but just HAD to get up that mountain today! I was there @ 7:30 this morning. Glorious day!
What a beautiful remedy for a long to do list. I think part of its allure is that we aren’t as in control and “in the know” as we are on a straight road. You just have to follow each curve and can only see a short piece of the journey at a time. There’s peace in that because it requires trust and not so much planning. What a lovely thought as I rise early and think about the day ahead.
I loved your comment on my table situation. Thank you for the encouragement about having one made. One of my favorite people in the antique business actually called me after that post and suggesst the same thing. She even hooked me up with a craftsman. Going for it!
Happy weekend! May you spend part of it snuggled up in some Bella Notte linen!

P.S. One of your readers found me through a comment I left months ago here on your blog. Karin from France. I would love to meet her in person someday! She has been the most amazing teacher and helper in this table process. She’s a gem. Glad she found me!
Hope this hike did not require as you have written before “a sacrificial dog!” Such beauty in your backyard. Here, the view is still turned inwards as I try to deal with the moles/voles/gophers??!!! It’s like the Secret of NIMH on steroids. I did read that one industrious couple tried running a hose from their car exhaust pipe into the holes of the little devils. To know avail. Also read cautionary tales about smoke bombs (grenades?!) and other acts of creative stupidity. Your road is much more peaceful…and fume less. Happy days your way.
Dashing off to pick up fencing material…after 18 years the perimeter has been breached! Marauding deer. Roses torn asunder. If that makes you feel better @ the moles. Husband has tried smoke bomb. Very funny to watch said husband flee after inserting it down hole. Re sacrificial dog: brought my wallet on the hike…2 miles straight up to the top…either my age or a mountain lion might have necessitated next of kin info. XO
AHHHH! Getting the shop ready for antiques week and I an trying once again to catch up! Then I come to your blog and see this, then I go to Dyeing French Linens which I died for, then to 18th Century Swedish walls……All of those posts so interesting……..Beautiful…….As usual very wonderfully presented…..Maryanne xo
Fall is hitting Tahoe too. Glorious yellow pink light and leaves are starting to turn. Just got back from hiking the dogs up on a trail off the Mt. Rose Hwy. Fabulous! Thanks for showing me what fall is doing down your way! As always, your postings are inspirational.
I know this long and winding road and have hiked it. Maybe we have passed each other. I don’t think I could do it anymore. Our golden hills really are quite beautiful, aren’t they? I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Oh I’m so hoping for cooler temps here in Los Angeles, I would like a Fall hike on the weekends. Right now it’s all about keeping the kids inside in the air conditioning where they drive their parents batty;)
Oh, I know these trails! Is this Pheonix Lake or Mt. Baldi? I ran it this morning- perhaps we passed each other?
