A few more favorite views from the Swedish Room…
Beyond the antiques…a large part of the magic of the space is the art tracing its
way across the top of the showroom’s gray walls. The chalky finish and subtle tones
of Sydney Harbor paints here were used as a subtle backdrop for the antiques
as well as the gorgeous mural above. Patterned after the c. 1770’s Chinese
inspired Tree of Life wallpaper in the Prima Donna’s Dressing Room at the
Drottningholm Court Theater in Stockholm, the mural above was recreated
on site by renown Swedish painters Jonas Wickman and Stephan Söder.
Charming use of barbed wire…
Love the edgy interpretation of a classical chandelier…
Mimicking centuries old wall art…
Suzanna has a large folio of wallpaper-like painted
murals swatches for her clients to choose from, and then
flies the painters out from Sweden to create the murals on site
Flipping though the portfolio….
I caught my breath thinking of
of insetting this into a paneled
door or across a focal wall…
This piece is inspired by the 18th century floral garlands
gracing the walls of Sturehov Manor…
Examples of these walls as well as many other gorgeous
18th century Swedish manors can be found in the fabulous book
The Swedish Room by Lars Sjöberg, Ursula Sjöberg, Ingalill Snitt
and previewed extensively by Google books here

Hello Trish !
Encore de très belles inspirations !
J’ai peint un bord de fenêtre comme ça avec des branches et des oiseaux sur un modèle suédois…
La pendule et le dressing room vraiment superbes aussi !
à bientôt,
Céline.
Merci Céline! I will have to search your blog…I hope you posted pictures! I’m hoping to try my hand at a few oiseaux myself!
Hai Trish,
What a lovely post again!!!!!!
I adore the swedish style but I think the chandelier is also absolutely faboules!!!!!
Thank you for sharing.

Love the barbed wire chandy!
Met Edie and Ronda when they did a book signing in NOLA – they are they best.
Do you scan these photos? If so you must give me some tips! Your photos are always breathtaking.

Hi Valorie! Most pictures are my photos of the showroom…save the Google Books photos of the The Swedish Room, and one from Edie and Rhonda’s Swedish Country Interiors. If I can find that last photo from House and Garden…floating about in my loose papers…I’ll try a better scan than I did last September. My husband keeps threatening to get a new scanner because ours is looking a bit beat up…but at least I know how to work it. I do crop my scans a bit…think a wee bit narrower reads better on my blog. Blogs are a very up and down medium…versus the horizontal world of magazines and books!
Getting edgy are we? LOVED the chandelier. Would not want to be in charge of changing the bulbs! My neighbor, a lovely eccentric artist, pulled out all of the old rusted barb wire (not legal in town) from her backyard that was installed back when her yard was a farm and she she and her farm-boy, very mechanically inclined husband rolled it into a tight ball and she uses it as a garden ornament! If my lawyer not mechanically -inclined husband and I attempted such we would have looked like we were shish kabobs. Thanks for the music and the beautiful pics. So agree with VV about your scan’s. Sighs….
Hi HBD…should have asked Suzanna about it…clearly there’s a story in that…as you so clearly illustrate! Behind every bit of barbed wire…
How cool is that barbed wire chandelier? Love it! Love your Swedish posts, the murals, wallpaper, they’re all so wonderful!
Hi Trish, lovely post, makes me want to paint everything! The chandelier is so perfect, in its imperfection.(Rachel Ashwell I think!) Wonder if I could convince Mr. M. to live with that one? Thank you for another wonderful style file lesson. Nella
I’m in love with these walls
THE SWEDISH ROOM – one of my favorite books! Real authentique interior. Having it for years – still “up-lifting” whenever I look at it. And the painted walls are just……….!!!!!!!!! Wonderful to share this pleasure with you, thank YOU!
Have a lovely weekend – Cordiallement -karin
Wow, how incredibly dreamy and beautiful… I am completely taken with the whimsical qualities and the craftsmanship. Truly outstanding. I love visiting your blog — not only does it feed me soul with the kind of interiors that I adore, but I always, always learn something. Thank you for the constant inspiration… now, I want to see more of these walls.
I hope you are enjoying the weekend!

It is interesting how the walls can be so subtle and yet so alluring. Beautiful.
Brava!!! You have outdone yourself with this post! That chandelier reminds me so much of the ones made from rebar in the Picasso museum. Your pictures spoil us! The detail shots of the murals are fabulous. I AM the fly on the wall!!!LOL! With all this inspiration, I must go paint something now!
Trish,
I love how these elegant papers draw your eye in. They are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
