Hello all my wonderful readers!!!
I have gotten an amazing amount of work done in the yard…funny how stepping away from the
computer does that for you! The burly menfolk have left me happily alone to aesthetically tweak
the remains of their days here. Now all that’s left to do is water carefully until all the new
planting takes hold. Ideally all of this would have been done a month ago but… c’est la vie.
I had a spare Sombreuil rose at the back of my garden
that was getting a wee bit less sun then ideal, so I hauled
it up to the new sloped garden between the olive tree and an
Italian cypress and am babying it until it forgives me
for roughing it up in the middle of summer…
The new lavender on the slope is a month away from looking like this…
but we gardeners are always patient…
Still fussing over their top soil, checking carefully
Here in the lower garden the lavender intermingles happily
and carelessly with hardy geranium Ann Folkard…
Espaliered apple tree with “Libery” apples…
purported to be Thomas Jefferson’s favorite apple…
The bees were going wild
over this annual poppy…
a firecracker red….
The emerging poppy seed heads
make a beautiful dried arrangement…
and rattle with the seeds of next year’s crop….
Hope you are all picnic-ing and fair-ing and firework-ing happily away…
Happy Birthday, America!
Trish
The hat photo is beautiful, you always know how to add that special extra touch. The garden plants are oh so sweet and lovely just like you.
Have a wonderful 4th of July, and the rest of the week end enjoy your garden.

Just wonderful! Our lavender started flowering rather early this year, so, at least yours will last longer! And the photos of the poppys…….really stunning!
Looking very much forward to see pictures of the olive trees.
Best wishes for a lovely 4th-of-July-Sunday and greetings from the Périgord

Hi Karin. I’m excited about how the hillside looks…but it has no color yet…just the neutral stone, gray leaves, fencing. I can hardly wait to see its first flush of white roses and hazy lavender. Merci! XO
Oh how absolutely delightful! It must be one of the best feelings in the world…that exhausted to the bone but most complete feeling when your garden is in place and what is left now is the nurturing and waiting patiently. you are so inspiring. Colette x
I hope speaking to you plants works…I keep saying “grow…grow!!!”. Can’t wait to see your landscaping…wondering what thrives in your part of the world!
Glad you have resurfaced and that the week of work went well. Good luck with the tweaking. Burley men have their place, but not so easily directed. Love the hat and the hint of the architectural elements that will soon adorn the hillside.
Hi HBD. You clearly have experience in this arena! Hope your work force, reinforcements, arrive soon. You have such a lovely husband to offer to lend a hand. Mine just kept up with that “it looked fine before” muttering.
Indeed lots going on….and now to enjoy all the beauty of their hard work! Happy 4th to you!!!
As always, a beautiful post. Congratulations on the new garden. Happy 4th to you, also.
Happy 4th of July to you! Yes, “patient” is our middle name. I imagine you are exhausted but in just weeks your garden will be thriving and you will be smiling knowing it was all worth it. I fear my lavender is not doing well this year. Hopefully as the summer gets warmer and drier it will flourish again. As always, your pictures and your post are exquisite and you have inspired me to go outside and chat with my roses.
Always a delight to visit your garden…I imagine you have just taken off that lovely hat as you settle into a fabulous antique garden chair to have a sip of something cool and to admire all of your hard work. It is time for you sit back, relax and enjoy the 4th!

Love that poppy!
Happy July 4th!
Hope it was a special day for you and your family!
Happy 4th of July, Trish to you and your family.
Your hard work has all paid off and how gorgeous your garden is looking, with the pretty poppies, roses and lavender.
I love the pretty hat and that delicious looking apple.

Trish,
Having been steeped in Katharine Hepburn today the straw bonnet is perfect! Your photographs, the gardens are so amazing-It is so hot here I have all but abandoned my lovelies-only the strong will survive this year. You have cultivated my favorite shades of lavender, lilac, and that shade of the apple-what do we call it? & the poppy-always knocks me out, just like Dorothy -need I say more?
I’ve only just come on here since yesterday wasn’t only a national holiday but my husbands Birthday as well. I was delighted to see a new post from you but Happy belated Fourth! That hat is to die for but the pictures of those poppies have me looking to see if they’ll grow in my area, they’re stunning! I can’t wait to see your new garden in bloom! Thank you again for a lovely post!
Your garden is just stunning and those photos of the poppies and bee is just amazing!! Wow.
Hugs~

What a lovely poppy. What is the name of it? I would love to grow some of these in my garden.
Hi Sonja. Click here for a good source. I believe mine is “Queen’s poppy” or “Danebrog”…though it was mismarked at the nursery I bought it from. HUGE blooms!
Trish, the garden must be looking quite beautiful just by the looks of a few photos. Wish I could grow lavender here, but I tried once and we have too much shade. It must be divine to have that wonderful scent. Sounds like we have the same husband!! Have a happy fourth, Nella xo
I would love to be wearing that hat at the moment but it’s so windy it would blow off 😦
Wonderful pics!
Oh my goodness…….I picked a wonderful day to visit. Each floral photo is exquisite, each and every one of them. I have you on my blog list but doesn’t show up on my reader. Must correct that today, I am missing too much beauty. XO
What lovely pictures from your garden again Trish. I adore those annual poppies but I’ve never seen such a bright red one before. Does it self seed all over the place like its cousins?
The first shot is beautiful, I love that hat.
Wishing you a good weekend
