Another one of my very favorite images…I was surprised to realize that
its from the same home as the lit à la polonaise in the previous post…
but from a different source…
Love the fawn tones of the linen…
the heavy simplicity of fabric and form…
Furniture in the room a blend of Italian and Provençal furniture from 18th and
19th century. Notice the distinctive architectural elements: baroque styled
doorway and bookcase, the unique plaster arched ceiling supported by beams.
The doorway feature was modeled after the 18th century Venetian bookcase…
providing a lovely symmetry, height and color to either side of the fireplace…
More garden elements inside add to the informal ease of the space…
Antique Biot pot… originally used to store olive oil…here…a pair of
glass cloches on twin tables behind couch…Venetian gondolier lantern…
These images from Provence Style of Living
Jérôme Coignard, photographs from Maisons Côté Sud
Back to the Veranda photos…
The shutters…the lovely volume of the
room carefully anointed with finds…
Parisian antique dealer Dominique Bénaed-Dépalle’s shop
Vivement Jeudi provided much of the furniture and objects….
Neutrals and tone on tone lifted
with trace of color and gilding…
Louis XV stone fireplace…
Antique Italian fauteuils in vintage damask…
Love the mix of gilded and patina laden baroque
with vintage metal tubs (like in this post here)
Procession lantern stands alongside the
18th century painted secretary…
View towards the dining room …
Italian chairs around simple wood table…
Italian gilt wood and metal chandelier…
Veranda photo of the daughter’s bedroom…
19th century bed with linen headboard…swathes of
cheesecloth looped from the beamed ceiling…
Provence Style of Living view of same room
at a different date…
Master bedroom…antique French bed…
carved Italian chairs…
baroque gilded chandelier over 19th century Swedish table
and 18th century French chairs…wall decorated
with Moustiers and Sarreguemine faience plates…
View of the late 17th to 18th century farmhouse…

Hey I it’s been a heck of a week, I sleep in, FOR ONCE, then get up get my espresso and see THIS!!! Stunningly gorgeous. I agree with you about the balance of the door with the bookcase on either side of the fireplace. The slipcover on the large piece in the living room is interesting too and I love the fact they let the wood on it peek out showing the scalloped edge. The gauze in the bedroom on the beams softens the room and the beauty of this whole thing is it’s simplicity. I am so loving the kitchen I can’t stand it……The Moustiers and Sarragmines plates…..And how the table is arranged. I’m filing this in my “got to keep this for when I get my house in the Sud de France file”!It will be my first entry. Thanks so much……Maryanne xo
Beautiful! All my favorite color- and “material”-combination
You’re posts Trish, are just simply good!
Hope that your ‘Provence Garden’ project is making progress.
Have a good start into the new week. Best wishes and warm greetings from a German Antique dealer, living in the Périgord, South-West of France. xxxkarin
Hi Karin…still lots of work to do…but making progress! The last of the “heavy lifting” will be done on Tuesday and then if my new plants can survive the next few weeks (believe me…I tried to get this started a month earlier!) it should all start to look like its been there for ages. Bet your garden in Périgord is gorgeous now!
Hello Trish, thanks for your lovely reply! Yes, our garden is looking not too ‘bad’. Lavender in different blues all over the places – dark blue flowering summer clematis and roses in ‘cool’ colors.
Can’t wait – and surely also all your friends – to see your olive trees!
By the way – just had another look at your post and realized why I like it so much. 10 years ago I bought several pieces for an interior from Vivement Jeudi when they had their shop in Paris. The shop was never overfilled with “hundreds” of pieces, every piece of furniture or object was carefully selected. Dominique was very well known for her special design of loose covers in natural linen for upholstery furniture. Just learned now that they have moved to Switzerland which is somewhat ‘out of my way’, unfortunately. It was always a great pleasure and inspiration to visit the shop from time to time
Bonne chance encore pour votre jardin – xxxkarin
Ahhhhhh….. the gentle gathering of the arches on the back of the slipcovered sofa is just gorgeous!
Good eye, Jana! I thought that was an interesting detail!
I am now chucking a linen sheet into a vat of brown dye, kidding I don’t know the first thing about dying, love that fawn colored linen. I would kill for those gilded frames and consoles in the fifth picture! Thank you for showing more pictures of that house…stunning!
Ah…that’s because you are an authority on PRECIOUS antique textiles, Debra! Its easier to dye something if you don’t have much to lose! That said…I have the name of a local dye guy that I am just dying to try out on some old slip covers and umbrellas.
I especially like the antique French bed and its scrolls and the groin vaulted ceiling in the kitchen.
Inspiring, to say the least!
Just so beautiful. As always. Your posts are a lovly gift to us each day, Trish. xx’s
The repetition of the ceiling and furniture details brings so much into the beauty of the room. I also loved
the vintage tubs. Never have I seen those two tubs before, in such a lovely room.
Trish, you always delight the senses and your posts are so inspirational…
Love the soft atmosphere in this house, and the wonderful use of colour. I especially like the black painted drawers in the bedroom.

hi Trish, some of these very images from the May 2004 Veranda issue inspired some decorating ideas in our home.. the oval gilt frames is in our bedroom… some linen was found on our recent trip for a loose cover for a similar setee…it has been one of my most favorit isues ever…thank you for sharing- everything of the best with your garden..love Colette x
Trish,
This is so lovely…I want to move in…I love the textures and the fawn colored linen on the settee in the first image, the back detail on the upholstery is unique. I am not usually a gold person, but I like the layers of paint textured on the walls too.
So much to take in. Fabulous.

Trish, love that gorgeous kitchen and the curvature of the ceiling and the colour of the old bricks, and the lovely blue of the table. Another dreamy post, thank you, Nella

Stunning. The simplicity of the linen fabric and the gentle arches. A soft ambiance which is even expressed in
the lovely kitchen. Delicate and melodious to the soul.
After what seems an age I am back in the fold.

It’s always interesting to me seeing different decorating styles from other countries and time eras.
I have never been in Italy or France, so the more I enjoyed looking at those awesome images to get an even better idea about these decorating styles. Good Job Trish!
Hi Trish,
Just come upon your beautiful site this morning , what a find, I am filled with inspiration at these exquisite images and so surprised you have such an English garden.
So much to explore I can barely tear myself away. But….the garden is waiting .
I will be back

I have loved this home for some years and saw this post on Pinterest. I am so in love with gold and this color of green. I am drooling over the gold frames and the gold and green little corbels or shelves. Can they be found at the flee markets? Are there good reproductions made of them? Beautiful post.
