I’m making decisions (and mistakes)…altering between high expectations and
anxiety on my latest landscaping project. “A few steps” are becoming a stone
staircase….a two foot wall is becoming three. And my husband is saying “It was
just fine the way it was”. Why do I get the feeling most of you know what I’m
talking about?! So I’m dabbling in a bit of frivolity with this post. Hope
everyone’s sundresses are out and your summer is off to a fragrant start.

annual lavender threshing party for all those of you
who want to head out to Northern California!!!

Love the iron chairs from Trove. Frivolity makes life fuller–as do mistakes and husbands. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve just found your blog and I’m a new fan….
Looking forward to sleuthing your old entries for more wonderful things…
How I wish I could grow lavender here in Atlanta….lilacs too….
The lavender in my garden is heavy with bumblebees now. I smile every time I pass by the window and see those wands waving about. One thing I’ve learned about growing lavender in the South; it doesn’t like heavy, wet soil. Plant it high, in well-drained loamy, almost sandy soil and it will thrive like nobody’s business.
I have a huge garden project of my own, involving retaining walls, and stone and pea gravel walkways, new beds, etc.. Sometimes it gets away from me, and I think I’m never going to be finished! Plans have changed numerous times, husband gets frustrated, and works stops for a bit until we regroup. Good to know we’re not the only ones. Thanks for a view into your garden.
Hi Cyndia…the bees nodding the lavender is my favorite feature! It is visually melodious! Very good point about drainage. I have naturally heavy, clay soil. In addition to amending the soil, for my lavender hedges I added a handful of gravel for each plant. Prevented the plants from getting wet feet! Lavender is great in pots too…they quickly swell to triple size by end of summer.
I love your frivolities. Every one of them! I think your project sounds amazing and can’t wait to see the end results. I’m up for a lavender party anytime – but you have to come down here to socali 🙂
I think I need that silk dress…. YUM!
xo Isa
Loving your wonderful pictures from Trove. As always, I appreciate each and every new entry from your Blog. Thanks….
Oh my word — that striped dress with the grossgrain ribbon is fantastic! Great finds!
Thanks for sharing… I see I am going to have to do some shopping 🙂
xoxo
Love everything in this post … And I your silk dress is gorgeous
Love the black and white against the frill of lace and the aging patina of the urn. Have an early and well formed addiction to black and white stripes. From one gardener to another, I am most surprised you have heavy clay in N. California. I would have thought you have the soil of the gods! Here in the midwest (rather old testament weather we are having this week—hideous), the first time I started planting I had to use a pickaxe. It was a bonding moment when you admitted you have broken one in your garden of perfection.
p.s. Mr. Ditto=no show, again! Why aren’t all garden professionals women who show up on time, dressed for the job, know what they are doing and can multi-task? xo
I’ve had to help the gods along! Lots of soil amendments. Some areas where I got lazy…my boxwood hedge along my arches…I just tossed extra gravel into the hole. Sorry about Ditto and son. Sigh. Where inspirational and zeal hit the wall. This is why you and I do so much of the work ourselves…too hard to wait!
Okay…if I could borrow that amazing dress of yours and the two iron garden chairs and the French garden urn, I would be ready to throw that garden party where I debut the plums in the decanters…of course, you are invited…you will just have to find something else to wear!!!!!

Alas…a size 8…you’re just too tiny! Those chairs would look great on your back patio!
Lovely post. Where is the dress from – gorgeous
Hi Anna. It’s by Twenty8twelve…bought it last year…sold out in the states but found it in the UK.
Hi Trish
Love that first picture of the three bottles making one beautiful label, so elegant. Love your dress as well. Glad to hear that your summer is well under way, here in Normandy we’re still waiting for any real warmth to arrive.
Sharon
My favorite is that French garden urn! And what a nice picture of it Trish!!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Lovely, Trish. But I don’t find my St. James shirts frivolous:) I buy them from brittany boutique via France, though…or have someone bring them from there. I couldn’t find a price on them at your link, but the ones I recently bought turned out to be less expensive, even with shipping, than other vendors who import them. That’s for those who saw it in J Crew & a few other catalogues. They were double the cost; same shirt. I had a fit about this last Sunday & wrote about it. Fit over.
ciao
I love Mothology and the dress is just fab! You can create such precise emotions with your wonderful photos!!!
Sometimes we just need to be frivolous…..love that garden urn, xv.
What lovelies! Hope the garden project goes well for you this weekend!
Oh Trish, Thanks for the tips on growing lavender. I put some in pots this year and they are doing great. Never thought of adding gravel to the hole in a planting bed, I do that in pots without holes in the bottom all the time. You may have just saved me on a bed that I have with water problems right now. Love, love, love all your posts! Mona
Hi Trish,
What beautiful photos you have shared in your post today ~ I love them all.
I have always had a penchant for black and white stripes and love your dress and the deck chairs.
Much luck with the latest landscape project and enjoy the summer.
Hugs
Carolyn
That Post Bag from Mothology KILLS me! I want it every time I see it…why have I not bought this yet???
Frivolous necessities, that’s what I call them! Trish, you deliver every time. Again a lovely, beautifully choreographed post, the colour and subject matter beautiful to view and digest. Want the dress, Nella xo
