My daughter wound her way through southern France,
from snow storms in London, delayed luggage,
and borrowed clothes from a school chum at Cambridge…
closed airport at Nimes, tracking back to Arles from Marseilles.
Luckily tribulations were reported after the fact, when I knew
she was safe and warm.
She’s moved on to Rome but has a treasure trove
of Provence on her Flicker account.
I thought I’d share just a few photos with you …
Gorgeous and eternal with slight drifts of snow…
She relished the ruins of Arles and Nimes…
enjoying a solemnity within the ruins that only an
uncharacteristically cold winter could promise…
unlike the hurly burly of a summer throng
Writing her name in hieroglyphics routinely on her
1st grade homework presaged a lifelong interest in ruins:
Egyptian, Mayan, and finally Roman…
I’m glad France has seduced her with its Roman charms…
and Figs….
and charming narrow, twisted alleyways…
She’s be home next week to celebrate her long awaited 21st birthday.
Remember when you couldn’t wait to grow up?
Looking forward to hearing the long story behind every picture.
Loved seeing these images and hearing that all is well with another daughter in distant lands.

oh Trish, these are so gorgeous!!!! I would love to see all her pictures. is that possible?
that one with the snow and the cat is fabulous. she’s so young – but what a photographer!!!
What a beautiful post. I have rarely seen pictures from France in the winter – it always seems to be spring or summer there! I enjoyed seeing the snow on the streets, the ice, the cooler tones from the wintry sky.
Such a wonderful opportunity for your daughter. She sounds like a centered and artistic girl…much like her mother. Thank you for sharing her photographs. I am sure you can’t wait to sit and listen to her adventures…enjoy your time together and Happy 21st Birthday to her!
🙂 Laura
Love them all! I’m having my Sunday morning coffee, with The New York Times, and reading my favorite blogs. I sit here immersed in memories of my frrst trip to France. I turned 23 the day I arrived in Paris!

Oh the beautiful photos your daughter took! My daughter did the same thing when she was 21–went to Europe with a friend and stayed way to long! But the stories she had to tell, all the adventures were so enjoyable to hear. She has wonderlust in her heart now (and even tattooed “wanderlust” on her arm)! Happy 21st Birthday to your daughter and welcome home safe and sound! -Delores
The dream that I will never realize is to see Paris and Rome. I am battling cancer and trying to raise a 17 yr. old grandaughter. I have fallen in love with your blog. I have to sign up as a follower. If you get a chance please stop by and visit my blog and sign up if you like.

Trish,
These photos are beautiful! My husband and I were in Arles in the Fall many years ago and loved all the ruins as well. But seeing them in the snow makes me want to go there in Winter. Snow can be such a beautiful accessory! And, as others have said, your daughter clearly inherited her mom’s eye for photography.
Pure eye candy… thanks for the treat!
Great photographs. Enjoy hearing the stories and treasure the time you have together.
Beautiful pix and beautiful post. She sounds like a lovely young woman and I wish her all the best!

Wonderful pictures of Avignion in the snow. Just left the day before the snow fell in Avignon. Finishing my antique buying in Avignon region and south France. I’m in the Provence and south France 4 to 5 times a year and experiences all seasons but never snow. Wonderful blog
