Eucalyptus, bay leaf and pepperberry sprig wreaths and garlands…
It was a blustery cold morning at the Antiques by the Bay flea market. Rancor between
owners had put the previous month’s event in jeopardy, but the founding owners of the
event were determined to not lose this 11 year treasure, for the sake of over 800 vendors,
and thousands of customers. Today the mood of the market was up despite the strong
cold wind that whipped off the San Francisco bay, and threat of rain later in the day.
Lots of reliquary alcoves beyond the spotted toy horse…
Love that vendors take the time to add a bit of green to their booths
Various size and shaped bread boards starting at $60
This vendor also has lots of galvanized tin, wooden bulb trays,
hinged wicker trunks. Regularly goes to Europe…
she’s going to Holland next.
Sonya of Belle Maison ties an extra cushion to the
leg of a chair she refinished and had upholstered
with stenciled rough linen…
It was before 8:00 and she was still pulling things out of
her van. She often has stenciled linen lamp shades…very cute…
Love the French mattress on this
heavily flounced settee…
And the cute tufted detail on this armless chair..
Unassuming reproduction chairs refinished
and up to date…

Fairly plain wood twin bed with this sweet crowned angelic duo
Karen Silen of La Maison Violette had her usual lovely selection of
French fabric, pillows, embroidered linen, curtains…
Bought a good pillow (or two) sized scrap of dark gray mattress
ticking…can see a bolster with a bright red cord border
Karen said that she will be opening her
Ebay store here on December 14, with reduced
prices through the month of December
This was cool…and extremely reasonable (@ $400?).
Wished I had a place to put it..
Thank you for the shopping trip Trish, so fun and I would love to buy it all!

Hi Trish! I so miss my Sunday morning flea market! This market seems more like a real antique show….fabulous items! I love your idea of the gray ticking with the red piping! Bet it will look great!
Take care, Laura
Trish,
We were having car troubles at our house this morning so I couldn’t make Alameda. Boo hoo! I hate that I have to wait another month. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your post.
Sorry Jenny. And you’re welcome. I must tell you, you also missed this
Bonjour Trish! I love flea market and enjoyed your little tour immensely. Those wooden bread boards are great as well as the French furniture from Belle Maison. Here’s to more market treasures!
Trish,
This is an amazing flea market! And dangerous for your wallet!! I would love to have a lot of all these pieces you showed as the bread bords, the settee with the French mattress, the pillows,….

I’d love the last one, the stainless table. Love the rectangle. Would make a great console, I think. Snow is in my garden today in Kansas. The week looks nasty. Time to start those winter projects. Thanks for the shopping trip. You have a wonderful eye.
Trish, are you sure you don’t want to trade places with me and move to upstate New York? I can’t get enough of linen. Thank you for sharing the lovely pictures.
Shannon
I love how the vendor has mixed the linens on the individual pieces and the detailing such as in the tufting that makes it unique…
Very nice, discovering places and object like this are my favorite activities also 🙂
Hi Trish- Isn’t Alameda just so inspiring? Even when you don’t buy anything, it just gets those creative juices flowing! I didn’t make it yesterday, so thank you so much for the beautiful armchair visit from the cozy comfort of my home! Robin
I would love to go-looks incredible. I especially like the tufted slipper chair.
Someday…somehow…I want to go and buy, buy, buy! Restraint will not be in my vocabulary on that fine day.

Whenever I see an American Flea Market I always wonder how come there is so much stuff left in France 🙂
Wanted to say how much I admire those amazing intrepids who monthly make that trip through dark, wind, rain, freezing cold and later in the day, the beating sun. Husband and I set up there for much of 2008, where I was constantly in awe of the dealers. It must be me. They do offer us terrific opportunities and inspiration. How fortunate to have so many wonderful vendors in one place. Marnlie
Hi Marnie. More than 800 vendors! All the packing up, small vans and large trucks filled, driving from as far away as LA. Setting up tents, tables, many creating vignettes, “rooms”. Impressive people.
I have a steel kitchen counter and when I moved abroad, it was the only piece of furniture I kept. Not very practical, but I love it. I use it as my desk now and the dog sleeps on the shelf underneath when I am working.
I just found your website via Belgian Pearls and I have to say it is a beautiful blog. I too was at the Alameda Antique Faire on Sunday and just published a post about it. Belle Maison has some wonderful pieces all upholstered in that linen we all love. Great pictures! Check me out too….Delores
Thanks for the tour of the flea market! I love to see upholstery in America
Hi, Trish — I just happened across your blog and am dying to know which vendor offered the stainless steel console table. Do you recall?
AMAZING!!!!!!! I would have had such fun there, loved all the cutting boards/bread boards, all the chairs and furniture…oh my what a treat. Just fabulous! And your blog is beautiful too!
