This is the time of year that I wished I had an outdoor fireplace…
I’ve always wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving outside…
When I heard about the Studio Blog’s contest here
I was seized with the impulse to exorcise my “Rough Luxe” demons..
I’d been painting a kitchen fireplace several shades of lime wash gray
and had moved on to my cast stone dining table outdoors…
Everything that I wanted to project inside my house spilled out onto the stone tabletop…
the dull and shiny metal patinas, traces of gilding, punches of aubergine
and violet and chartreuse green moss, ethereal white poised above the gray…
I absolutely love how the contest encourages you to use what you have…
so out came the aged tin sap pots, last year’s moss, the eggplants from
the garden, and lichen encrusted branches cast aside by
some of the austere oaks surrounding the patio…
and that floriferous passion flower that has so overtaken
the side garden gate that I can barely push it open.
Gilded edged porcelain…but with rough “fiddlehead” flatware
instead of silver, my Astier de Villate gravy boat at the ready..
the crystal stems icy and scintillating against the rough gray tabletop…
I have a chandelier that I keep in a corner of the dining room
on the floor…a spare…so I can plug it in and hang it from
the bay tree over the table in the spring, summer, and fall…
Whether you enter the contest or are just getting ready for the big day…
look around you, pull open the cupboards, and have fun.

What a fabulous table setting! That chandelier is so fantastic outside! Beautiful!
That was fun, Trish, loved your setting and descriptions. Beautiful grays. Your posts on your home are my favorite.
Really lovely.
Lee
PS. When do we get a peek at the fireplace?
I sent you a photo Lee…I’m still looking for a particular architectural detail to finish it, and the lime wash can take tome to cure and further bloom. Like to post “pretty” and it ain’t pretty yet.
Now you are singing my song! Zinc and Astier de Villatte are 2 of my favorite things!!!!!!! Both are coming back with me when I head to France 🙂 Beautiful table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Brocantess…don’t they go well together? Now if we could just find an Astier bargain outlet.
This is gorgeous, Trish! I don’t mind at all that you don’t have a outdoor fireplace. I would gladly bundle up to sit at this at this stunning table in any weather. Your selections and pairings are just wonderful.
~Jermaine~
Thanks Jermaine…you have the same philosophy of taking advantage of what’s around you.
Trish,
You gave me inspiration for my tablesetting in my outbuilding! But it is still not ready yet! We still need electricity and water. So I think we have to wait untill spring now! But if it is not too cold here in Belgium maybe I can set my table also with alll the things I collected yet for my outbuilding dinners!
Thank you Trish and I go for a look at the Studio Blog!
Greet
I can’t wait to see…even if I have to wait ’till spring.
You gotta’ love a girl who keeps a chandelier at the ready! What fun. Your study in gray is turning out most beautiful.
Well, I’m so glad you like that. You need the essentials ever at the ready!
Hi Trish, its terribly hot here in Melbourne at the moment and your table looks so invitingly cool and refreshing. What a delicious colour choice….love it all! Thanks for the lovely comments on my blog too xx Kerry
Hi Kerry…I was thinking about Christmas in Australia…white flocked Christmas trees? Red Santa hats? How disorienting it must be for new “settlers” .
Hi Trish,
Not only do you have great posts every time, but you are also so talented- what a stunning tablescape. I love everything about it.
It was sad to put it all away…wished I could have rung a group of you to come over.
Trish is this for real?? What a stylist you are!!! Fantastic! This belongs in the Veranda magazine! I had to scroll back and look some more. I love it all! (And of course anything with gray makes my heart race extra fast).
Happy weekend! OX Monika
Thanks Monika. You are so sweet!
Lovely table !! I would love to eat outside , sitting at this table
Merci, and I would love to eat anywhere in your Provence!
I took your advise and emptied my cupboards. Have a grey day! I linked you.

Very nice and like the ceramic’s, he’s very good at it.
Love the setting, here it’s a bit too cold to eat outside, when there is not gas heating on.
Thanks.
