so beautiful & how wonderful are your letters! let me just say-pretty wonderful. I have family letters just plain English-but the hand and papers are wonderful. I must consider framing them-but where will they go? I have so enjoyed your blog-just until recently did I Think you were ensconed in some tucked away Chateau in France. G
Isn’t it wonderful to have a little chateau to tuck into from time to time?
Hi Trish,
I’ve seen those framed collars before and love how it looks….have some of my own that I have thought about framing….just havent gotten around to it….(that and a million other things!).
Your framed French letters are wonderful. I have some framed botanicals from an old herbarium that I like very much too. The multiples provide impact…
Take care, Laura
Hi Laura. I have a round box of collars just waiting to be framed! Shubel bought those in Paris…vintage mirrored back collar salesman’s sample. You can see them shifted through his various homes over the years.
Trish, out of those 6 wall displays – yours is the best! Lovely idea! I assume that the very handsome frames (and perfect in scale) were custom ordered?
Hi Monika. Those were standard gilded wood frames with glass switched out for ultraviolet glass, uncut mats that I floated the letters on so you could see the edges (use archival double sided tape). Antique letters were from Couram71 on Ebay…bought them several years ago and they were $8-18 each. Have some 18th century letters, but prefer the more loopy writing of the early 19th century. Looked for letters that had varied size fonts within the text…stand-out signatures, often with decorative flourishes.
Love those French letters!

I love the idea of framing a huge map in pieces, since often the ones I can find have damage on the folds. And the letters? Brilliant! I have a set of antique French Letters that will look stunning like this, thanks so much for the wonderful post.

I love these images you have shown…I need a good collection of my own…do like the framed collars. Beautiful!
I love maps, always have done since I was a youngster. I think they look great on the wall.

Hi Trish,
I adore your framed French letters and the Paris and San Francisco apartments of Stephen Shubel.
Who would have thought of framing the vintage collars? I have a few of those.
They look really great.
Hugs
Carolyn
