Carolyn Quartemaine fabric, Home office, Stephen Shubel, Storage solutions, yellow ballroom striped curtains
I’m trying to figure out what color to paint my office walls. They are several shades
of blue on paneling. Love the yellow and cream Ballroom Stripe curtains. The
up to date desk has nifty features like a flip down key board drawer with segregated
storage. Love the mirror, painted it “zinc” and added a finial…set high enough for me
to imagine that its perched on a mansard roof line in Paris…the view out adjacent
windows is awash in morning sunshine, blessed by occasionally pink sunsets
over the surrounding hills…
The great thing about baskets is that they have a “meant to do that” look about them,
even if purchased over several years. Gray boxes with labels from The Container Store…
fraught with organizational possibilities. Binders above were throw outs my sister covered with
wrapping map and script paper. Black ribbon reads French to me.
Gathered up all my galvanized tin…it’s always easier on the eye to repeat containers
and all the odds and end can grouped. Sneaking in gratuitous shot of my daughter
Since she never looks at my blog (rolls eyes) this ought not to bother her…
Comfortable chair in the corner by the bookcase…
Was thinking of adding a bit of Carolyn Quartermaine script to the back of the
desk chairs…anything but white to the front…
Love the black, cream, white, gold, gray, yellow…
Post that most feels like the direction I’d like to go is Stephen Shubel in Paris here
I’m also seriously considering a gray toned French limestone floor…
and a multi framed sepia Turgo Plan de Paris map à la Pigtown Design here

Love, love your website. So refreshing not to see Restoration Hardware, the current pages from the most current magazine, just true design. I also think that your curtains are wonderful and could be paired with a wonderful warm gray instead of blue. Keep up the great work!
Hi Laura. Thanks. Trotting off to the paint store tomorrow!
Hi Trish,
You know how much I love your blog and all the beautiful images and information you share with us….I especially love it though when you share your own personal spaces….your style is sophisticated and real. I’m loving the zinc touches and have been adding gray to our master too… And your daughter is beautiful!
Take care, Laura
Hi Trish,
I have a color suggestion…Malton by Benjamin Moore. It’s a warm creamy light, light beige (could almost be considered a creamy yellow) and it would probably look really lovely with your curtains (but, then, I like the whole tone-on-tone look). If you don’t like tone-on-tone, Harbor Gray by Benjamin Moore is a really pretty gray with a very subtle blue tone in it. I’m going to use it in my dining room as soon as I figure out the rest of the room’s vision. Again, I am coveting your chairs. First, it was the chairs in your kitchen (the fallen lavender shot) and now it is the chair you sit on at your desk. ~ Jenny C.
Hi Jenny…I know Malton..great color. I’m going to investigate Farrow and Ball also. Wanted tufted Edwardian chair for desk…but these were a great deal. Thanks!
Your daughter is lovely…my children roll their eyes at me also…. 36 and 28… guess it will never end. Flip side my husband and I roll our eyes at them too! You have a nice work space, mine is cramped in my dining room… ug… I paint in there and trip over my easle…one of these days, I will have a proper art studio. Until then, I am content to create and complain from time to time. I am grateful though, it is just our nature to do so. I love your curtains and the mirror… the finial… great touch.
Lee
Hi Lee…thank you (I edited for you!). I love your attitude. Every negative has a flip side. My office is small…have to move a chair to close the door, but I love having my own little space. Great use of a dining room!
Hi Trish,
Your workspace is wonderful and thanks for showing us.
I love the mirror and the galvanized tin.
Lovely photo of your daughter ~ is she the Fashion Designer?
My children do not like me sharing photos of them, on my blog.
Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn. No, she’s a Classics major that has gone on 2 archaeological digs in Italy, oddly enough also loves crunching numbers. Your daughter is gorgeous (glad you sneaked a picture in!).
a beautiful space, while on what we love- I love the simple tacked ticking cover on your chair- that on goes in the file. GT
Some other wonderful blogger put out the alert last year that West Elm’s Ticking bedding was on sale…swooped in and bought every standard pillow cover they had for $6 each. Just stitched at corners for seat covers, might add grosgrain tie at back. Sometimes pop up on Ebay.
You find something no one else has in your posts- love that. I feel my decorating interest renewed when I look at your blog. And such a lovely daughter.
Trish,
This morning I hung 2 LXV sconces as you showed here, in our guest room! So French! I love it!

Good Morning Trish,
I just don’t know how you do it…you throw some pillows and textiles on a French chair…not even intending to impress as you are showing a thought process…or lavender spills across your kitchen floor…you capture it for us before “cleaning” it up…and these and similar images are some of the most richly compelling artistic bytes in the blogosphere. Style…taste ~ yours are impeccable as evidenced by the beauty you bring to us in every post…but there is a real magic in the way you “See” and in the way you are able to capture a moment of random beauty that runs through an everyday life And speaking of beauty…your daughter is beautiful and I can imagine her rolling those gorgeous eyes of hers at Mom’s blog, for I have two daughter’s of my own…

Hi Trish,
Love seeing photos of your beautiful home. Would you mind sharing who makes
your desk and the “zinc” paint color? You will share when you choose your paint
color, won’t you?
Hi Kerry…Crate and Barrel desk. I think they have/had 2 sizes this one 26″ X 52″ (smaller one)…was less than $400. William Sonoma Home had similar or with metal, glass…much more. Love seeing the X when I come into the room. Zinc color…I have so much paint and I’m always custom mixing it. Will definitely let you know about wall color…we have a paint store that carries Farrow and Ball, have my eye on several creams and grays.
Hi Trish,
what a lovely and comfortable study you have. Your home is really beautiful.
The colour of your walls is very nice, but a woman needs changes sometime… understand…
Just a hint by a freelancer with a big office and a couple of computers… (not very lovely and comfortable… ;-)) do yomething about the cables. They don’t suit the wonderful style of your room…
Love to see, how your walls will turn out.
a wonderful week to you,
EC
