At Sunday’s Alameda Flea Market…
Marcia Ceppos from Tinsel Trading Company, with friend
artist Wendy Addison, held court over a vast sampling…
of vintage French grosgrain and satin ribbons,
embroidered applique, metallic fringe and silver baubles…
wooden spools and antique gold lame ribbon…

Military embellishments ceded in the 20th century…
and new markets were sought for for the glittery metallic fringes…
I’m so glad you had a chance to meet up, I was at Tinsel Trading last Friday and Marcia went into the basement to find the last of some very special tinselly thread…
So what spoke to your soul? what came home with you that you couldn’t be parted from?
Hi Susan. I love the spools with metallic thread and grosgrain the most…just as they are. I’m determined to try my hand at those ribbon roses with the gold lame ribbon…need to get the book you recommended.
Tinsel Trading is such a special shop in NYC…it must be everyone’s favorite…not just Martha’s! (I know it’s one of my favorites!)
Take care, Laura
Hi Laura. The flea market was somewhat uninspiring… “Shabby” gone so far it was more like “Grapes of Wrath” chic…until I stumbled upon their booth. Wow.
Such wonderful pieces. There is something magical about shimmery, shiney metallics. Sea Witch
I agree, Sea Witch!
