Three panel Art Nouveau Dressing Screen Some of my favorite finds are the ones that just…drop into my lap! A reader contacted me about some of the Carolyn Quartermaine fabric I was selling, and in an aside via email exchanges, mentioned that she was the lady that bought one of my most obsessed about items several years ago. Wendy Lewis’s 18th century indigo striped and tasseled ciel de lit. I posted about it here and here. Ceil de lit 11Textile Trunk Trouvais Here the polonaise curtains drop from their ciel de lit in Wendy’s barn in the original listing. Wendy places this at anywhere between 18th and early 19th century…the passementarie added later…most likely Napoleon III…late 19th. And my new best friend Anne Sorrells of La Maison Antiques and Design in North Carolina was willing to sell this piece of my textile dreams to me! ceil-de-lit-9-textile-trunk-trouvaisThe  upholstered “tete” might still be available. I just purchased the polonaise drapes since I have several options from which to hang these already! I asked Anne to send me photos of several other items she is selling through her antique store and added a slide show below, with a bit of information. 8th Century French or Italian linen door covering hand painted with vegetable dyes. Over 15 feet long. Fair condition. Could be repurposed. 18th Century French or Italian linen door covering… hand painted with vegetable dyes. Over 15 feet long. Fair condition. An invitation to repurpose! La Maison Antiques & Design French statues have a plaque that reads “Progress” on them…and sit in front of a large hand painted reproduction of 18th century French artist Jean Marc Nattier.

18th century French porcelain, Flea Market Style, French Antiques

flea market styleI keep meaning to write a post about this bed I found last summer…and I’m working on it. I just follow my heart sometimes on collecting…and find a place and use for the item eventually. Along the way I meet so many interesting and amazing people. Great blogging friends, wonderful textile dealers that love the hunt and bring back amazing pieces. Antique dealers like Atelier de Campagne that scour England, France and Belgium for that next best thing. People on Ebay or Etsy that sell the most amazing finds from their own collections or early Flea Market jaunts!. It’s always worth keeping your ears open for that “something in the back room”.

Antique Paris porcelain

My one piece of 18th c French porcelain. Slow Buds the Pink Dawn like a Rose here

As I mentioned earlier, I bought the most amazing piece of 18th century silk at the end of last summer, and in the course of emails back and forth the seller mentioned she had a nice sized collection of 18th c French porcelain. Catnip to my ears! Over the next few months I proceeded to beg for photographs, and more information, and the result is that I will be hosting a private sale of her 18th c French Porcelain on a page of my blog for the next month or so. The pieces have been collected over a long period of time, and it is rare to find so many full sets. There is no middleman, these items are being sold directly from the seller. Her email is listed at the end of the page. I have already pulled my pieces off the market, am tempted to pull one more piece off. But I will be gracious and let you guys have a look first.

To access the sale, click the link on the top bar of my header, or go here

If you have any questions you can email me at lyonallen@hotmail.com.

Trouvais photos of Sienna Antiques Frames

Yes…I’m still up to my elbows in gray dye…but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a few golden highlights. My sister and I did a little shopping last week in one of my favorite small towns on Northern California…quintessential old Americana…a great mix of garden nurseries, quirky thrift stores, and several wonderful antique stores. Chelsea Antiques is on one side of the main boulevard…and Sienna, where I took all these photos, on the other.

Trouvais: Sienna Antiques

The top frame is 18th century German…terrifically expensive….so if you find something like this at the local thrift..I’d grab it…

Really..the shades are what does it for me!

European container sale

Can you believe it…it’s already been a year since last year’s Spring Atelier de Campagne container sale! If you come away with nothing from each sale, you nevertheless KNOW what’s going to be IN. Champagne baskets and metal dolly tubs and odd zinc collanders. I saw them here first. And then they were the “it” item. All at pre-1stdibs prices.

French flea market

Here’s a view from last Spring’s sale. Always a fun event…the vignettes creating the perfect joi de vivre! The basket belonged to a famous touring vaudeville act and was picked up in London by Johan.  I’ve been a bit like Goldilocks with Atelier’s baskets: an earlier one here was too big, the above one was too small…#18/236 Lrg Wicker Basket

And this was JUST right. Reserved for me! If you see anything on the incoming list here you can grab it pre-sale by calling or emailing (terms here)

garden antiques

A close up from last year…beautiful soft shades of gray, always plenty of mirrors and crystal…

Flea market style

More beautiful gray washed furniture setting off a group of blue polka dot pitchers….also coming in in green and….a mystery color…!

Vignette

For those that crave authenticity….#18/249 Pair of Wooden Baluster Lamps

Always wonderful shutters….wooden baluster lamps…wonderful pillows and linens…

#18/192 Set of 12 Bistro Chairs

A full set of 12 bistro chairs….incredible find…
#18/132 Wooden Grape Carriers detail

Wooden grape carriers….

#18/075 2 Terra Cotta Busts on Pedestal

My favorites…terra cotta busts on pedestals. Can imagine them on either side of a set of French doors with a view to the garden beyond??
