Quiet Beauty in Provence

Arles, France, Provence, Roman ruins

My daughter wound her way through southern France,

from snow storms in London, delayed luggage,

and borrowed clothes from a school chum at Cambridge…

closed airport at Nimes, tracking back to Arles from Marseilles.

Luckily tribulations were reported after the fact, when I knew

she was safe and warm.

She’s moved on to Rome but has a treasure trove

of Provence on her Flicker account.

I thought I’d share just a few photos with you …

Gorgeous and eternal with slight drifts of snow…

She relished the ruins of Arles and Nimes…

enjoying a solemnity within the ruins that only an

uncharacteristically cold winter could promise…

unlike the hurly burly of a summer throng

Writing her name in hieroglyphics routinely on her

1st grade homework presaged a lifelong interest in ruins:

Egyptian, Mayan, and finally Roman…

I’m glad France has seduced her with its Roman charms…

and Figs….

and charming narrow, twisted alleyways…

She’s be home next week to celebrate her long awaited 21st birthday.

Remember when you couldn’t wait to grow up?

Looking forward to hearing the long story behind every picture.

and surprises, bold eccentricities and daring quirks, Madeleine Castaing

Some things I post about are very precious, unattainable

inimitable…but they fuel the engine of my beauty searching soul

I purchased many of my roses years ago from Gregg Lowry in Sebastapol, California

He is doing such a wonderful service for us all in  preserving antique roses so that we

can sink our face into the same bouquet that Josephine clipped from her Malmaison gardens…

If you want to help a business struggling in these times, preserve a bit of history,

and have decades of wonderful, intoxicating antique French roses in your home

for less than the price of a Diptyque candle…click below.
