Sunday morning at Antiques by the Bay
Just a few quick shots of the flea this
morning and a reminder of an upcoming
container sale…
Much that was gorgeous…
Really …what else can I say…
Lovely…
The seller was still mulling over which of
these she was going to keep for herself…
sourced from Round Top
This huge trunk was $25…
Loved these old ice cream freezer buckets…
Heavy, tall, water tight, perfect for umbrellas…or lamp bases…
From the same “kids” who introduced me to grains sacks
when I first started going to the flea market three
years ago…
Still the best bargain around…
from Ludwiga Covert…

And last but not least…
An old favorite…Atelier de Campagne…
Though Atelier de Campagne is at the flea market every month, they
also regularly hold container sales of just arrived, hand picked merchandise
direct from Europe. The next container sale will be this coming
weekend…October 9 & 10…at their home near Santa Cruz
Several times a year Johan and Trinidad rummage their way through France
and Belgium, attending antique fairs and dropping into antique shops to collect
a warehouse’s worth of treasure for each sale. Here is a partial account by Trinidad
from a piece he wrote for the Alameda Point Antique Fair newsletter:
“After the first fair, we head to the South, making a major pit stop in Le Mans
for our first “debalaque”. Most people recognize this city for its car races, but
to antique dealers and brocanteurs, it is a great place to buy and sell.
Our next stop is Beziers, which is quite close to the Mediterranean.
We shop these for two days and in between, we visit Pezenas, which is a
beautiful, ancient little town, and whose main street is lined
up with quaint homes, restaurants, and of course, antique shops.
Avignon is our next stop. This formerly papal city has many points of interest
and a peculiar center of town, which in days of old, was surrounded by
the river…hence the song Sur la Pont D’Avignon. Our last stop is Montpellier,
and from there we find our way back to our place in Belgium.
