My “baby” sister just traded in her “done” house on a small lot…
to a more “modest” house. Older, humbler… but on 1.8 acres…
My favorite feature was her garage…
One day after she’s received her key, floor finishers are whirring
away inside and her treasures are charmingly amassing
on the somewhat ragged garage built-ins. Painted an
ignoble brown.. the cabinets run the length of the garage…
could see them refinished, re-hardware-d…
The industrial overhead lights a delightful surprise…
The garage is being eyed greedily as a living room conversion…
as it lines up alongside the kitchen and family area with
endless possibilities imagined through the 70′s ranch style
windows and the rickety pull-up garage doors…
Imagine the florescent lighting gone, the extraneous wood
pulled down, and the white painted beams stripped and sanded
to match the ceiling. Imagine a polished concrete floor or cobbled
large pavers that extend past a bank of French doors to
the backyard…
Imagine a chandelier…

What an intriguing idea and it sounds doable (if at great cost and labor). I also am enamored with Belgian design and if I were your sister, I would GO FOR IT. The space is right.
What a nice space….I’m coveting those shelves running along the garage wall! (And that beautiful clock in front of them). I’d love to see how the space gets renovated…with your great taste, I know it will look fabulous!
Thanks for all the beautiful images.

My sister brought the mantle clock back from a London antique shop. She has great taste. I envy her being able to start from scratch. If she can swing a new garage the old garage will give her much needed square footage. Needs to budget like crazy and squeeze water from a stone to make that happen. If anyone can do it, she can.
Hi Trish,
What a beautiful place your Sister has bought and with so much potential.
I love the wooden shelves and the concrete floor polished up will be great.
What an exciting project and I wish your Sister all the best with her renovating project. Thanks for sharing.
Happy weekend
Hugs

Phenominal space, what lovely things she will create within. Sea Witch
I think your sister’s garage is speaking volumes about wanting to go Belgian. Seems like a perfect fit for the garage, but is it workable with the bones and theme of the rest of the home?
Trish,
I am so thankful to you to mention me in your wonderful post of today!!
You are a sweet!
Greet
Hi Greet…since your blog is the best Belgian design blog out there, we’ll be keeping our eye on every post for ideas. French Kissed…the good and bad news is the house has no style. Ripe for interpretation. Thank you Sea Witch and Carolyn…it will be a wonderful big space…she has gotten very reasonable bids on fixing it up.
I don’t see it costing that much – the floors would be the big one and replacing garage doors with windows, but still – she could paint the floors herself even. that’s a garage!!! I would do it in a heartbeat!!!!
